The camp drafting is a competition where a rider has to cut a single steer out of a small heard and stop it from returning to the group by only using his horse, then the gate to the enclosure is opened and the steer has to be driven around a figure 8 course and through a gate
the first part is done very quietly to cut the steer from the group, but once the steer realizes it has been cut it tries very hard to get back to the group, points are given on the riders ability to cut the steer, once the gate opens the steer bolts for it and the chase is on, the rider again uses only his horse to control the direction of the run away steer with points given for going around each marker in the correct direction, the second part also has a time limit
